Who or What Really Created the Universe?
One of the biggest debates among mankind over the years is how the world came into being. Was it really God, or was it the Big Bang? Psalm 19:1 in the Bible tells us that “the heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork.” His handiwork. His. Handiwork. That tells us right there two things: (1) that God is the one who created the universe and (2) that God considers his creation to be an achievement. It’s something He accomplished, not something that happened by happenstance. So He is worthy of our praise for being the master creator, according to Calvary Houston.
Take a well-written, best-selling novel, for example. When you look at this novel, your first thought likely isn’t “Wow, I wonder how that book came into being….” Instead, you realize that someone was instrumental in writing the words in this book, and, of course, a book publisher was likely involved in the process. In the same way, everything around us -- from one galaxy to the next and everything in between -- is a product of intelligent design. Somebody was instrumental in bringing it all to fruition, and that somebody’s name is God.
Colossians 1:16 goes on to say that “for by Him all things were created.” Everything is truly His workmanship. It’s amazing how much of His workmanship we miss out on as we go about our daily business, consumed with business meetings, soccer schedules, and even church services. If we take time to smell the roses -- literally -- and to look up at the glistening stars in the sky at night, we’ll see how beautiful the work of His hands really is. Then, if you take an extra moment to sing a praise to Him as you admire His creation, you may end up feeling closer to Him than you ever thought was possible by simply looking at the natural world around you.
